A clearer way to measure product value is needed than simply counting how many parallels or hits appear in a box. Many formats look good on paper because they flood collectors with color, even though very little of it actually matters.

To address that, a new metric called Quality Hits was applied across the entire 2025 release slate. These are the low numbered parallels, meaningful autos and relics and true case hit level inserts that create upside in a box.

More than 100 formats spanning roughly 30 products across multiple sports were analyzed using this framework.

The analysis does not consider player quality. It measures how often impactful hits appear in each format. This makes it possible to compare products that rely on massive quantities of high numbered parallels against formats that produce fewer but far more significant hits.

The boundaries of what qualifies as a Quality Hit are subjective and open to debate. Even so, applying consistent rules across all formats reveals which products still offer real value at current market prices and which ones do not.

    Data analysis done by CellDood.

    Definition of a Quality Hit

A card qualifies as a Quality Hit if it meets at least one of the following criteria.

    Low-numbered parallels

All base cards and non-rare inserts numbered /76 or lower qualify.

This threshold was chosen to include historically significant parallels such as Independence Day /76 in Flagship and Black Chrome in Heritage. While this also captures some /75 parallels, those appear infrequently enough that the tradeoff is minimal.

Parallels numbered /99 or higher are excluded. At that level, scarcity becomes diluted and values typically fall off. This excludes formats such as Vintage Stock and True Photo in Flagship.

    Low-numbered autographs and relics

All autos and relics numbered /100 or lower qualify.

This excludes Blue /150 and Aqua /199 autos, but a consistent cutoff was necessary. While many relics /100 are not especially exciting, consistency is critical for large-scale analysis.

    Case hit level inserts

All inserts that appear one per case or rarer qualify.

Some of these inserts have print runs well above /99, but case hits are often highly desirable regardless of raw serial count. This includes both valuable and low value case hits.

The one exception is Cosmic Chrome Planetary Pursuit, which is included despite appearing more frequently than one per case because of its importance to the product.

    Findings by Price Tier

    Under $100

Flagship retail formats perform better than expected. Fanatics Value boxes and Hangers rank particularly well, while Fat Packs and Displays lag behind. These formats benefit from higher volumes of quality hits and stable pricing relative to Hobby.

Chrome NBA Hangers rank exactly where expected, still modeled at $20. They are extremely difficult to find at that price but remain strong value if located.

Chrome UFC and Chrome F1 perform far better than anticipated. Chrome F1 remains at MSRP but limited global production of approximately 5,700 cases suggests retail availability will be scarce.

Holiday Tins perform poorly because they contain no autos or relics. Their odds were not released until well after product launch, which limits transparency.

Chrome Update and Bowman Megas rank at the bottom. Their structures offer very little in terms of meaningful hits.

    $101 to $250

This tier demonstrates how Hobby formats consistently outperform Retail in cost per quality hit.

Sapphire formats perform exceptionally well. Rather than delivering one quality hit every few boxes, Sapphire often produces multiple quality hits in a single box.

Chrome UFC and Chrome Boxing continue to stand out and warrant closer inspection of their checklists.

2024 Heritage High remains strong, while 2025 Heritage High benefits from significantly reduced production and performs even better.

Chrome College Football products repeatedly rank among the best, though long-term value will depend on licensing changes.

Rising prices in Hobby Flagship formats reduce their relative value in this tier.

    Logofractor continues to underperform.

    $251 to $500

Chrome UFC Breaker’s Delight is one of the strongest performers in this tier.

Unlicensed NFL Chrome products from 2024 compare favorably to upcoming licensed releases, which may be priced significantly higher.

Paper Update overperformed expectations despite limited chase content, while Chrome Update underperformed despite having better theoretical assets.

Bowman Chrome Hobby appears weak here, largely due to its $460 price point.

    $501 and Up

Topps Tribute performs well because almost every card qualifies as a quality hit.

Sapphire formats continue to show strong efficiency.

Cosmic Chrome remains expensive but delivers enough meaningful hits to justify its position, though it would be far more attractive at lower pricing.

Bowman Draft continues to struggle relative to its price.

Chrome NBA Breaker’s and Jumbo formats remain popular but appear to be priced above what their quality hit metrics support.

    Conclusion

The Quality Hits framework provides a clearer picture of which formats actually deliver meaningful cards for the money. When layered with checklist strength and ceiling analysis, it allows for a comprehensive ranking of the best and worst formats of the year based on true value rather than hype.

The final synthesis of all metrics will determine which products truly deserve their price tags in the 2025 market.

Same data as above but not as an image.

I have converted all of the Quality Hits data into clean tables. All product names, formats, sports, prices and Cost Per Quality Hit values are preserved exactly.
